Youth British Club League

This past weekend, Ormeau Table Tennis Club had an exciting and action-packed few days at the Youth British Club League in Derby! We were proud to send four teams to represent the club across different divisions – two boys’ teams and two girls’ teams – all showcasing their talent and determination. A huge thank you to McCartan Turkington Breen Solicitors for sponsoring our teams; we truly appreciated their support, and the players wore the branded shirts with pride.

Here’s a breakdown of how each team performed:

Ormeau Girls 1 – Premier Division

Our top girl’s team, made up of Anjali, Niamh, and Grace, competed in the Premier Division, going head-to-head with some of the best young players in the UK. While the team didn’t secure a match win, they put up a fight in every round, managing to take games off each opponent.

  • Grace had an outstanding victory over England’s No. 4 and national team player Sienna Jetha, a brilliant achievement at this high level.
  • Niamh also impressed with wins over No. 5 U17 player Jonabel Taguibao and Junior No. 9 Saskia Key.

Despite the tough competition, these performances showed the team’s potential, and we’re proud of their resilience.

Ormeau Boys 1 – Division 4

The Ormeau Boys 1 team had a strong weekend, currently sitting second in Division 4 after securing three crucial wins over eBatt, Cippenham, and Wood Green.

A special mention goes to Junior Close, who had a stellar performance, winning 7 out of 8 matches for an impressive 87.5% win rate. The boys are in great shape going into the next round, and we’re confident they’ll keep pushing for the top spot!

Ormeau Girls 2 – Division 3

Our Girls 2 team, competing in Division 3, battled hard to secure two important draws against Britannia and Greenhouse. The team finished the weekend in 7th place, showing great spirit throughout.

We were also delighted to see Lea Gal make her debut for the club, and she didn’t disappoint, picking up two wins. It’s fantastic to see our younger players stepping up and making their mark!

Ormeau Boys 2 – Division 8

Ormeau Boys 2 had a hugely successful weekend, sitting joint top of Division 8 with Jersey after finishing with four wins and a draw.

A massive congratulations goes to Toby Caldwell, who was awarded Player of the Weekend (Boys) after winning 100% of his matches! Toby’s fantastic performance was key to the team’s success, and we couldn’t be prouder of his achievement.

Thank You to Our Sponsors and Coaches

We would like to extend a massive thank you to our fantastic coaching team – Gervis, Keith, Trevor, and Emma – who supported and guided the players throughout the weekend.

We’re also grateful to our equipment sponsor Teessport, and once again to McCartan Turkington Breen Solicitors for sponsoring our teams and helping make this weekend a success.

Looking Ahead

With plenty of positives to take from the weekend, we’re already looking forward to the next round of the Youth British Club League in February. Our teams are motivated and ready to continue their hard work, building on the experiences gained in Derby.

Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for the next exciting chapter of this competition!
