Ormeau Junior Challenger

The Ormeau Table Tennis Club is excited to host the annual Ormeau Junior Challenger, part of the Table Tennis Ulster Challenger series. This event is a fantastic opportunity for juniors under 19 of all abilities to gain Ulster ranking points, compete against players at a similar level, and enjoy an action-packed day of table tennis!
The tournament features a mixed format, with boys and girls competing in divisions tailored to their playing experience. Players will begin in group stages before progressing to knockout rounds, ensuring plenty of competitive matches for everyone.
Division Level Guide
Division 1 & 2: Ideal for more experienced and competent players who regularly participate in Challenger events and compete at Ulster or Irish tournaments.

Division 3 & 4: Perfect for newer players and beginners who have been playing for a year or less, such as those starting out in school or recreational environments.
Tournament Format

Groups of four players will kick off each division.

Division 1 & 2: The top two players from each group will progress to Division 1, while the 3rd and 4th place players will move into Division 2.

Division 3 & 4: Similarly, the top two players from each group will advance to Division 3, and the 3rd and 4th place players will move to Division 4. **FULL**

After group stages, players will compete in knockouts to determine their final positions.

Prizes

Awards will be presented to the winners and runners-up in each division.

Tournament Timetable

Division 1 & 2: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Division 3 & 4: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

  • All start times are approximate, and events may run past their scheduled finish times.
  • Please register for the division you believe is most suitable based on your experience level.

TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS

1. A condition of entry to each event is that players agree to abide by TTU’s Code of Conduct which can be accessed on TTU’s website https://www.tabletennisulster.com/code-of-conduct/ .

2. Participants will be organised into groups initially, and after the format will be a knockout tournament with the top 2 players advancing into the top half of the Division and the bottom 2 moving to the lower half of the Division. Matches will be the best of 3 games unless otherwise specified by the event organiser.  

3. The final order in a group shall be determined as per ITTF regulation 3.7.5 for group competitions except that where a player concedes a match he/she shall receive -3 group points.

4. All players will be expected to umpire when required.

5. All players must report to the control table on arrival and must not leave the venue while still in the competition without first obtaining permission from the Referee.

6.  The tournament organiser reserves the right to alter the format of the draw, cancel any category and to restrict admission to the tournament venue.  If a category is over-subscribed, then entries will be treated on a last in–first out basis.

7.  Event Entry Restrictions:  All players must provide their DOB and club name as a condition of entry and must be affiliated to the ITTA.

8. All disputes will be dealt with by the tournament organiser and/or TTU’s Events Committee whose decision will be final.
