Owen Cathcart started his campaign at the ITTF World Tour Swedish Junior Open on Wednesday. OC had a really strong days performances winning his singles group with routine 3-0 wins against Emborg(DEN) and Rustemovski(MKD). OC then faced Moullet(SUI) in his Main Draw Last 64 match winning with a convincing 4-1 performance.
Wednesday saw OC team up with housemate and close friend Borgar Haug in the Junior doubles where they were seeded 7th. The two mates cruised into the Last 8 with solid wins over pairs from Italy 3-0, USA 3-1 and impressively Singapore 3-1.
Thursday morning’s play has seen a superb last 32 singles win for OC over Andrea Puppo(ITA) 4-0! This was a crushing win over the 13th seed that sends OC into the Last 16 where tough Singapore opposition awaits later today.
Thursday has also provided a huge win for OC and Borgar in the doubles last 8 were they have defeated the no 4 seeded Italians Puppo and Rossi 3-2. This win guarantees another WJC medal for the lads with a semi-final against Singapore to play at lunchtime!
Gervis and Sophie departed early this morning to join OC at the Swedish open along with the Irish Cadet Girls team. We would like to wish OC & and Sope all the very best for the coming matches!
