Sophie Shines At Czech Junior Open

Excellent event for Sophie Earley (13) as she finishes with a silver and bronze medal in Hodonin, Czech Republic. Sophie teamed up with Anna Hursey (Wales) in the doubles and after a fantastic run up to the final of the Junior (U18) girls doubles! The girls battled hard but lost 3-1 to a strong team from Belerus and Italy.

Sophie and Anna teamed up again in the Cadet (U15) girls team event and worked their way through to the semi finals with wins over Serbia and Belerus and setting up a clash with Russia. The girls lost out 3-2 with Anna picking up two superb wins – leaving the girls with a Bronze medal!

In the singles today Sophie showed great form to reach the quarter finals defeating girl’s from Spain and Puerto Rico. The singles tournament came to an end for Sophie in the quarter finals playing Ting Yao from Chinese Typei which went all the way to a deciding fifth set!

Sophie has done herself, family and the Irish team very proud taking away to medals at a high quality world event. We would like to congratulate her coach Conn Higgins on a successful and excellent job in Czech.
