Special send-off in Molnar!
Five Ormeau players were selected for the Annual Molnar Open in Budapest, Hungary over the weekend. This was an emotional event as always but even more special as this will be the last Molnar Open after 25 years! The boys that represented Team Ireland from Ormeau were Max, Jonathan, Joel, Matthew and Senan.
Overall great performances from all the boys winning lots of important matches throughout the three days of competition. Best performances came from Max and Jonathan in the Junior Boys event on Sunday. Max reached the Last 16 winning after a group of death followed by a clinical performance in the last 32 3-0 over a good Slovakian player. Max exited the tournament in the Last 16 against former finalist Terek (Hungary) 3-0 but played a world-class second set leading 9-7! Jonathan was comfortable second place in his group running No7 seed Ocsai 3-1 and was eventually put out by Serbian Junior Benko 3-1 in another nail-biting 3-1 match. Jonathan also reached the last 16 of the Cadet boys but lost 3-1 to Palusek (Slovakia). Well done also to Joel who made the main draw in Juniors and Cadets and also to Matthew who made the main draw in the U13s.
An excellent event for the lads and many thanks to the coaches Gervis, Sam and Alan who travelled with the Irish team!
